79th General Assembly Opens, and Palestine Takes It’s Seat Among Member States as a Full Member of the UN

On Monday, September 11, 2024  was the opening of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations. The new President of the 79th session is Philemon Yang, of Cameroon. He identified some of the urgent global challenges e.g. climate change, conflicts, poverty and inequality. 

Peace and Security contines to be of paramount importance.  He stated that his Presidency would seek to build on effective peace operations and conflict resolution startegies, 

As he will incorpate a gender perspective and strive to achieve gender equality and promote sustainable economic growth whil protecting human rights and international law. 

The 79th General Assembly session is filled with hope for the global community.

The Permanent Representative of Egypt to the UN Ambassador Osama Abdei Khalek opened the Assembly with the rquest of  confirmation of the implementation of  Resolution ES-10/23 adopted by the Genral Assembly on May 10, 2024 which stipulated that Palestine have the right to be seated among Member States in alphabetical order came into force. The UN Ambassador for Palestine is the honorable Riyahd Mansour. Palestine remains a non-member state but has a seat in the UN.It is an upgrade for Palestine to actually havae a seat among the 193 member states. 

Kings and  heads of state from around the world will commence the Genreal Assembly on September 24th to the 30th. Each country will preent its perpecstive  on the topics listed on the agenda incluing international, regional and national concerns.
