What We Do

Our work is about the interconnection of all life and our common responsibility to care for both the human and natural world. We approach this interconnection by pondering these questions:

  • What can we do to serve both people and planet?
  • What is Earth asking of the Order?

We pursue our Dominican UN advocacy through our membership on the following committees:

  • Committee for Social Development: The NGO Committee on Social Development is dedicated to raising awareness of and contributing to discussions on social development issues taken up by the United Nations (UN) System and in particular by the UN Commission for Social Development. Some of the social issues addressed are: poverty, employment, social inclusion and other social protection floors.
  • Commission on the Status of Women: The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.
  • NGO Working Group on Homelessness:  The NGO is dedicated to the alleviation and eventual elimination of unsheltered homelessness working with the United Nations, global platforms to end homelessness, and academic centers such as the Institute for Global Homelessness at DePaul University.
  • NGO Mining Working Group: The NGO works for improvements in national and international law, policy, and practice to ensure that extractive activity:
    • The Amazon Subcommittee addresses the concerns of the Indigenous Peoples in the Amazon and in particular Brazil.
  • Indigenous Peoples Forum: The forum has a yearly conference usually, in April. It focuses on the various issues Indigenous Peoples globally. There is an Expert Group Meeting yearly as well that gives in depth information on the situation of Indigenous Peoples.
  • Justice Coalition of Religious (JCOR) The primary aim of this coalition is to strengthen the capacity of its members to address the root causes of unsustainable development. JCOR works toward this goal by coordinating national, regional, and global efforts of Religious to call on local and national leaders for a just, equitable, and rights-based implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN’s Agenda for 2015-2030.
