Preparing for the Commission on the Status of Women

We welcomed 10 Dominican Sisters to the CSW 67 last week March 4-10th and a new sister, Ellen Burkhardt on Sunday, March 12th.  Some of the sisters had never been to the UN or the United States. We were very happy to host them for this important gathering of women. We are most appreciative of the Dominican Sisters of Hope who welcomed us to the Center at Mariandale in Ossining, New York.

The international participants were Sr. Rose Mai Kim from Vietnam, Sr. Sarudzai Mutero from Zimbabwe, Sr. Philomena Benedict from England, Sr. Venentia Mthembu from South Africa. In addition, we also welcomed Adrian Dominican Sisters, Sr. Kathy Nolan, Sr. Patricia Leonard, Sr. Patricia McDonald, Sr. Judith Benkert, Sr. Bless Colasito, Sr. Judy Friedel, and Sr. Ellen Burkhardt joined us on Sunday March 12th.

The International Dominican Justice Promoters, Sr. Reg McKillip, Sr. Teresa Dagdag, Sr. Mary Tuck, Sr. Aparecida, and Sr. Philomena Benedict have prepared a webinar for March 14th at 8:00 AM EST with our Dominican Sisters ministering in Burkina Faso, Ecuador, and Honduras. Sister Elsa Myriam will be speaking from Ecuador, Sister Nicole from Burkina Faso and Sr. Teresa in Honduras. They will be reflecting on their work with rural women and their empowerment as they explore the challenges and opportunities in this ministry. This webinar will be recorded in all three languages. Be on the look out for the recordings in the next week or so. Our Sister Monica from Pakistan is unable to be with us. We regret that she will not be part of the webinar.
